Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) has a strong commitment to scholarships as part of its mission to promote education and academic excellence. Since its founding in 1908, AKA has prioritized scholarship support to empower students, particularly those from underrepresented and underserved communities.

This commitment is reflected in several key initiatives:

  1. Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) – AKA established the EAF to provide scholarships, grants, and financial support to students pursuing higher education.
  2. HBCU Support – The sorority actively supports Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through fundraising and scholarships to ensure these institutions continue providing quality education.
  3. Graduate and Undergraduate Scholarships – AKA awards numerous scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students to help alleviate financial burdens and support academic achievement.
  4. Targeted Programs – As part of its international programs, AKA implements initiatives focused on education, such as mentoring, college readiness programs, and financial literacy workshops.
Pamela Nunnelly Scholarship
 
Pamela R. Nunnelly was an educator in the Columbia Public Schools system for over 25 years and was inducted into the Rock Bridge High School Hall of Fame. She was a member of the undergraduate chapter Delta Tau Chapter located in Columbia, MO and a member of Kappa Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Columbia, Missouri. Pamela Nunnelly supported student’s educational journeys, advocated for all backgrounds, coached cheer teams and championed women’s rights. (Only Battle High School tudents can apply) 
Doris H Lewis Scholarship
 
Doris H. Lewis was an elementary school teacher who taught physical education in the Columbia Public Schools system. Ms. Lewis was very active in her church and was a member of numerous community organizations. She was a charter member of both the undergraduate (Delta Tau) and graduate (Kappa Chi Omega) chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Columbia, Missouri. In her honor, scholarships are awarded to a high achieving Senior in each of the four Columbia public high schools. (Hickman High School, Douglass High School and Rockbridge Highschool students can apply)
