Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.”

 

KAPPA CHI OMEGA HISTORY
 

Kappa Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated began when an interested group of Alpha Kappa Alpha women joined together seeking to establish a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Columbia, Missouri. Prior to this, Alpha Kappa Alpha women residing in Columbia would commute to Jefferson City, Missouri to affiliate with the Gamma Epsilon Omega Chapter. The first meeting of this determined group of women was held on September 14, 1975, at the home of Soror Doris H. Lewis. As the group went through the necessary steps of establishing a chapter, they engaged in community service projects and other worthwhile activities. Successful fundraising activities provided for the presentation of one scholarship to a local graduating high school senior. Finally, on May 8, 1976, the Kappa Chi Omega chartering ceremony was held with Soror Dorothy M. Parker, Mid-Western Regional Director, presiding.
